Charleston Chews – Spring 2017

One of my favorite sayings is, “Expect anything worthwhile to take a long time.” Borrowed from Maria Popova’s wonderful series, Brain Pickings, the idea is that the myth of overnight success is just that – a myth. The flower doesn’t go from bud to blossom in one spritely burst, and yet, as a culture, we’re disinterested in the tedium of the blossoming. But that’s where all the real magic unfolds in the making of one’s character and destiny. And, I might add, in the making of good music!

After a couple of years of incubating this bud, the flower is finally bursting forth. A lot of you have been waiting a long time for this, so I’m happy to announce that our new album, “Resilience” will be released in September 2017! The CD Release Party will take place at Birdland in NYC on September 21, and I’d love to see you all there. (it’s never too early to mark your calendars!) Yes, we’ll be performing all new originals, plus some swinging standards that you all know and love, with our great band – Dave Stryker, Ed Howard, Brandon McCune, McClenty Hunter and Mayra Casales.

And What’s more, it will be released on our own Resilience Records label! (more to come on that soon!)

In the meanwhile, I’ll be hitting some local stages this summer, and my team is busily at work booking the national Resilience tour for the 2017-2018 season.

Remember – we can’t control everything in our lives, but we can cultivate the resiliency to prevail. Music is one of the invaluable tools we have to help us survive! Let’s share this joyful experience with each other!

Love to you all.
